Marine conservation in Hong Kong

Tung Ping Chau Marine and GeoPark tour

On 21st November, 2010, we took a day trip to the Tung Peng Chau Marine / Geo Park with our friends from EnglishTown in Hong Kong.

We took the morning ferry from the Ma Liu Shui pier and arrived 1 ½ later arrived on the island.

After a brief introduction at the pier, we took them on a guided tour, exploring the island’s famous rock formations and introducing everyone to the marine park and the challenges faced. The brief hike took us past a few memorable sceneries with the towering stacks of sedimentary rocks in Keng Lau Shek and a small stretch of land that the sea almost sliced away from the main island called Cham Keng Chau (Break-neck island).

We ended the hike in the small village in Tai Tong Wan and had lunch followed by a short discussion and quiz on Hong Kong’s marine life and the efforts needed to protect them.  Everyone agreed that the day was positive with great participation from the attendees.
