According to a report in the SCMP 16th December, the coral reefs in Hong Kong are deemed in a healthy state but indications are that they are under pressure from global warming. Living Seas Hong Kong believes that this article sketches over the real issues, and there are clear indications that the reefs are under real threat. Global warming is the topic of the moment given the recent Bali conference howeve this is NOT the major threat to Hong Kong reefs. Statements from the AFCD such as ‘generally stable’ and fish life as ‘quite rich and diverse’ gives more of a clear indication about the pressures that the reefs in Hong Kong are under.
