There is continued opposition to the proposed artificial beach project at Lung Mei in Tai Po. Living Seas has reported on this previously. The major objections are:
- Waste of tax payers money, the waters in this area are highly polluted and subject to red-tides.
- Development of the beach will adversely affect valuable mangrove areas and a valuable ecosystem.
- Species richness in the areas has been shown to be 6 times higher than the official EIA (environmental impact assessment) completed. This puts into question the accuracy and recommendations of the EIA.
